It is interesting how the history is told. I heard many variations of the story of the sinking of the Erturgul, and its salvage operation. What has been written, and what has been told is different. Also, what has been told was written and became to be known as “what really happened.” Some say there was a large explosion, and the other say the ship hit the reef and lost control. The wind direction at the time of sinking seems to have different stories as well. Another story I heard is that there was a large salvage operation using large equipment, but some say this was not the case. Anyway, I think tomorrow will be another “reading day” for me. Kondo say found a collection of archives from the next town. Today, Oshima is included in the Town of Kushimoto. However, in the past, Oshima and Kushimoto was a separate town, and was even a different regional district. The archives from 1890 from Oshima was not stored in Kushimoto but was stored at the town of Koza. We found interesting archival materials. I have not had a time to read these, but considering the importance of the documents, I should start translating them soon. By the way, today’s diving was really good. Visibility was excellent, and the water was warm. Many artifacts can be seen, concentrated between and under large rocks. I am not sure what is the best way to map this.
